Job summary

Position: Cook Reporting to: Student Retention Liaison Location: Training and Education Centre Employment status: Term Employment until June 30, 2027 Job Summary: The role of the cook will involve planning, preparing and delivering light, healthy lunches to school-aged children in the before and after-school program. The cook will ensure the kitchen is clean, sanitized, and always safe. Responsibilities: Assemble, cook and prepare light lunch menu items; Modify menu items for children with strict food allergies or restrictions; Deliver prepared lunches daily to the school; Plan menus, determine appropriate food portions for school-aged children; Clean, sanitize and maintain kitchen and food preparation areas; Order, track and stock food, kitchen supplies and equipment; May supervise kitchen helpers; Other duties as assigned. Requirements: Culinary course and/or food service experience, preferred Food Handlers Certification required. Fluency in Mi’kmaq strongly recommended Strong organization and time management skills Ability to communicate effectively with students and staff Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position Valid driver’s license and access to reliable vehicle Please note that successful candidates must provide a current satisfactory criminal record with a vulnerable sector check and child abuse registry check prior to commencing employment. Preference will be given to Indigenous people in accordance with the Aboriginal Employment Preferences Policy of the Canadian Human Rights Commission.
